Triplite is a rare phosphate monoclonal mineral. The name is derived from the Greek τριπλόος (triplós) - triple. It occurs in granitic pegmatites rich in phosphates. Triplite was first described in 1813. Crystals are rare, typically bumpy, and can take many obscure shapes. They also form granular and massive aggregates. Hardness 5–5.5 Mohs scale. The color is most often hazel, red to black, less often orange. Top quality triplite is used in jewelry as a precious stone.
