Peridot / Olivine – natural large crystal
An exceptional natural peridot (olivine) crystal with an intense olive green color comes from renowned deposits in Pakistan. It is a natural, uncut crystal suitable for collectors. Olivine occurs mainly in ultrabasic and igneous rocks. The Romans called it the “evening emerald” because it shone even in low light. Crystals from Pakistan are among the highest quality in the world. Peridot is common as a granular mineral in basalts and peridotites, but large, well-developed crystals are relatively rare.

The formation of peridot is the result of the crystallization of a mixture of molten rocks and gases (magma), which contain very little silicon. It is an important rock-forming mineral of basic and ultrabasic rocks. The types of rocks that are made up of peridot (olivine) in the massive part are called peridotites.
Peridot is a rhombic mineral with an unstable proportion of iron and magnesium depending on the conditions under which this precious stone was formed. The main component causing the green hue is iron, the proportion of which, according to some gemologists, should not exceed 15%. Trace elements of chromium and nickel should also not be missing in the crystal lattice of peridot. Deep in the earth's mantle is a yellow-green gemstone that has been confused with emerald.
